Where it all started...
Salon, a progressive media website news was founded by San Francisco Examiner's former arts and features editor, David Talbot, in the wake of the Newspaper crisis in November of 1994. He left the newspaper to explore the potentials of the internet and launched Salon in November of 1995. As one of the first entirely digital major news outlets, Salon slowly grew in popularity as it was awarded "Best Website of the Year" by Time magazine in 1996. Salon aims to cover breaking news, politics, entertainment, culture, and technology through investigative reporting, commentary, criticism, and provocative personal essays. According to the senior contributing writer for the American Journalism Review, Paul Farhi, Salon offers "provocative (if predictably liberal) political commentary and lots of sex." This characterization of Salon does not do it justice thought, but that is what this reviewer is here to do.
