How far is too far? — Genetic engineering in babies: A Video AnalysisSalon Reporter, Amanda Marcotte sits down with author of the book "Babies of Technology", Tom Ekman, to get his opinion on the changing nature of birth in today's society. Technology is changing the culture of births and pregnancies, as parents are beginning to obtain more control over the genetics and features of their babies. Ekman tells Marcotte that he feels their needs to be an agency or authority to govern and monitor assisted reproductive technologies and curtail some of the potentially devastating impacts on children created by these technologies. Marcotte lacks backing for his claim because he was unable to give any examples of the negative impacts associated with Genetically engineering babies, but he does cite that due to the technology that people in California are allowed to decide if they want a boy or girl, so girls are more popular. Ekman backs this claim by noting that there are more Google searches for "how to raise a girl?" than for "how to raise a boy?". Ekman raises concern about the new genetic engineering technology bringing up the 'perfect baby' scenario. The video was conducted on through the Salontalks platform where it appears that a Salon reporter/writer sits down and has an open conversation with a guest on a particular topic.
Paul Ryan Instagram Picture AnalysisThis pictures is the perfect representation for the sense of worry felt by many Republicans when they were unable to successfully repeal Obamacare aka the Affordable Healthcare Act and instill their own replacement bill. The red in the picture represents the color of the Republican Party. The red could also represent the sense of urgency that Republicans have to repeal Obamacare, so that they can get their healthcare act rolling. Salon provides a short caption to give a brief background to the situation, but then tell readers to go to the Salon website to read the full article.

Salon Audio (beta)Salon has a section where they host podcasts, for their staffed writers. Most of the audios are centered around politics, but there are a variety of genres for listeners to enjoy. On the podcasts hosted by Chauncey Devega , they allow for guests to openly share their opinions (often with no fillers, lots of vulgar language). Devega allows Henry Giroux to rant on the "culture" that America has created that allowed for Trump to rise to power in the podcast titled "Our “culture of cruelty” gave rise to Trump". The audios give reader's real emotion behind the contributors and guests' comments, which is beneficial for an understanding of the speaker's tone. The Audio section of Salon is in beta so it lacks many examples.
